I am a survivor of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. My journey started in April 2009. While I was pulling off my tee shirt my elbow bumped my right breast. I felt a big lump. Confused because it was not there that morning. I called my friend in Durban and explained my story and asked her to make an appointment with Dr A Goga. As I was going to Durban that weekend for Easter not realizing I was going to spend 1 year there. Doctor checked and suggested a lumpectomy 2 days later. The next day I was busy having fun when I got a call from the Doctors rooms.
He wanted to see me to discuss my biopsy results. Looking at his face I knew It was bad news. He said “I am sorry it is bigger than I thought” and handed me the biopsy report. My eye just caught the word “malignant “. I was devastated. My sinister journey started the next morning. Lumpectomy then referred to oncologist. My successful treatment plan was 8 doses of Chemotherapy (4 Red Devil and 4 Taxotere) by Dr Riaz Mall. I call him my Angel most pleasant and kind. 30 Doses of Radiation Therapy + 5 scar boost.
Going for Radiation daily put a strain on my finances. Reach for Recovery advised I should stay at Makushla Interim House run by CANCA. Dr Mall motivated and I got to stay there. Makushla House provides Accommodation, food and transport for patients to all their treatment centers for a small sum as donation. Thanks to CANCA for proving such a human support. I would be forever grateful to my Late Mum for all the care and love she provided during my helpless times.
Thanks to my family and friends for all the support and care and love. My Big Thank you to Wings of Hope who showed me there is Life after cancer. This amazing group of friendly, caring and loving people changed my life. No one should go through cancer journey alone. Early detection saves lives.
